Pasado continuo (Inglés). 

Tiempo verbal del idioma inglés para expresar acciones que ocurrieron en un periodo de tiempo determinado. 

Estructura gramatical

El pasado continuo se construye de la siguiente forma.

• Sujeto+was/were+verbo terminado en ing.

El pasado continuo se utiliza también para referimos a dos acciones en el pasado, una de las cuales se completó, mientras que la otra continuaba, para una se utiliza el pasado simple y para la otra el pasado continuo. Para ello se necesitan conectores para enlazar o unir las dos oraciones. Estos son while y where.

Sujeto+was/were+verbo de acción+conector+la oración en pasado simple.

• I was watching TV when she called.

Ejemplos

Sujeto	Verbo be en pasado	Verbo de acción terminado en ing
I	was	practicing sports yesterday
They	were	dancing in the party last night.

Formas negativas

Agregamos not o la contracción n't al final del verbo be.

• I was not painting the house.

Sus formas interrogativas

Utilizado en las preguntas yes or no questions

• Pregunta -Was she sleeping when her father arrived?
• Respueta -Yes, she was.
• Pregunta -Were Paul and David playing football while Nancy was reading a book?
• Respuesta -No, they were not.

Utilizado en las preguntas Wh-questions

• Pregunta -What was Alfred doing at seven o'clock?
• Respuesta -He was having breakfast.
• Pregunta -What were you doing when you broke your leg?
• Respuesta -I was playing baseball.

4. Mary was always borrowing my books. Mary siempre estaba pidiendo prestado mis libros.


5. Peter was practising the guitar before the competition. Peter estuvo practicando la guitarra antes de la competencia.


6. Susan was driving when the accident happened. Susan estaba conduciendo cuando ocurrió el accidente.


7. My friends were fighting during the whole night at the club. Mis amigos estuvieron peleando durante toda la noche en el club.
